Robert passed away at home, with family on July 23, 2017.

Robert was born August 28, 1928, on the family farm 4 miles west of Dows to his parents Archie and Nora (Harbert) Foust. He was raised in the Methodist Church. Robert received his diploma from the Dows School District and enlisted at the age of 17 in the United States Navy, where he served as a quarter master from 1945-1949.

Robert married Bonnie Lou Tillman on May 18, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Together they started their family in Dows. They moved to Sac City in 1964. This is where Robert began his 26-year long career with Sernetts Department Store as a manager.

In 1974 the family relocated to Spencer where he continued his career at the new Spencer Sernetts store until his retirement in 1990.

Robert was a member and past president of the Golden Kiwanis Club, a member of the Ambassadors Club, and a member of the American Legion. Robert enjoyed friends, dancing, playing cards and shooting pool, but most of all be loved golf. In addition, he loved wintering at Alamo Palms in Texas for 23 years. There he would volunteer for the Salvation Army, delivering Christmas gifts/food to the needy. They returned to Spencer fulltime in 2013.
