Lela Marie Moore, better known as "Marie" to all her friends and family, passed from this life on July 8, 2017. Funeral services will be 2PM, Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Wellsville Baptist Church with visitation prior at 10:30AM. A graveside service will be 11AM, Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Goodland Cemetery in Goodland, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville Baptist Church or the First Christian Church of Goodland in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Marie was born March 13, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of William Hensen and Jessie Louise Thomas. She attended Belleville High School and also Denver University School of Nursing.
Marie was united in marriage to James LeRoy Moore on April 30, 1950 at Central Christian Church in Belleville, KS. They were married 50 years before Jim preceded her in death September 6, 2000.
Marie was a farm wife and also a rural mail carrier in Goodland. She was very active. She served on the Kansas Sheep and Wool Auxiliary, was a member of DAR, Sherman County Historical Society, and the NARFE. Marie was one of the founders for the Sherman County Century Families.
After her husband's death she moved to Wellsville, Kansas where she was a member of the Wellsville Baptist Church. In May of 2011, Marie moved to Vintage Park in Baldwin City, KS where she had lived until her death.
Marie is survived by her children: Jessie and Timothy Moore Hession of Guilford, CT; Mickey Rau of Chicago, IL; Patrick and Becky Moore of Houston, TX; Scott and Kim Moore of Wellsville; 9 grandchildren; Wendy and Dan Bailey, Craig and Rachel Moore, Derek and Katherine Moore, Daniel Moore, Joseph Moore, Andrew Moore, Phil Rau, Michael Rau, and Stephen Rau; one great-granddaughter, Wynn Marie Bailey; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She is preceded by her husband, Jim Moore, a son, Danny, her parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
