Wilbur G. Smeltzer
YORK — Wilbur Grove Smeltzer, 87, was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, from Colonial Manor. He was the husband of the late Ruth R. (Olphin) Smeltzer.
Mr. Smeltzer was born February 2, 1920, in York County, to the late Claudie A. (Grove) and G. Frank Smeltzer.
Mr. Smeltzer attended the Trinity Schools in Felton. He worked at BMY for over 30 years, and then worked at Yorktowne Cabinets as a cabinet maker. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Smeltzer was a very generous and caring man. He enjoyed nature, taking walks, and all animals. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Wilbur leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Paula Scott of York, and Deborah G. Cruz and husband, Angel of York; two grandchildren, Victoria Strickhouser and husband, Robert of York, and Blaine Bosserman of York; great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth K. Stiles of Dallastown, Velma A. Spurley of Red Lion, and Phyllis L. Eberly of York; and a host of family and friends. Mr. Smeltzer was preceded in death by a stepson, Bertus E. Cameron; son-in-law, Walter T. Scott, Jr.; and sisters and brothers, Romayne H. Smeltzer, George W. Smeltzer, Evelyn A. McCleary, Fern M. McCleary, Carl E. Smeltzer, and Pauline E. Barnhart.
Family and friends are invited to viewings on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the John H. Danner Funeral Home, 822 E. Market York. The service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday with Chaplain Betty Fundalwiez officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military rites performed by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions me made to the SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17402 in honor of Mr. Smeltzer's love for animals.
