WILLIAM HENRY ORVIS: The passing of William Henry Orvis, on Monday, October 8th, 1951, took one of Shelburne's oldest residents. He was the son of the late Isaac Orvis, and was born at Pickering. He came to Melancthon when a boy. When he married he moved to Jessopville and farmed there for a number of years, and then moved to a small farm at Melancthon. A few years ago he and the late Mrs. Orvis moved to Shelburne.
After the passing of Mrs. Orvis he made his home with Mrs. George McGrath. Left to mourn his loss are: Mrs. Wm. Jordan (Margaret), Shelburne; Mrs. Wilbert Horsley (Selinda), Brampton; Mrs. H. Hollingsworth (Lavina) Toronto; Leslie, Streetsville; Mrs. Geo. McGrath (Florence), Shelburne; Mrs. Allan Tupling (Vina), Sand Hill; also one sister, Mrs. Robt. Street, Mount Dennis, and George, Robert and Silas, brothers.
The large floral display testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held.
A large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral, held at Gamble's Funeral Home. Service was conducted by Rev. Dr. H. 0. Hutcheson, of Trinity United Church.
The remains were borne to their last resting place in Shelburne cemetery by Leslie Jordon, Chester Horsely, Leonard Street, Robert Miller, Gordon Orvis and Oscar Fraser.
