William "Bill" Carlysle, of Tucker, GA died peacefully on August 27th at the age of 92.
He is survived by his two sons: David (Marty) of Pleasant Grove, AL and Tom (Lisa) of Tucker, GA, five grand children: Sabrina Robertson (Matt), Moriah Moore (Alan), Geoffrey Carlysle, Ian Carlysle, Trevor Carlysle and step-granddaughter Lori Simpson (Jeff), two great grandchildren: Angelica Robertson, Lysla Robertson, and two step-great-grandchildren: Kaleb Simpson and Kolin Simpson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doreen (Vickers), his seven siblings: Leslie Carlysle, Gertrude Satterfield, Betty Walters, Lawrence Carlysle, Alice McGough, Phyllis Hardy and Sally Novak, his daughter-in-law Gwen, and one step-granddaughter, Keri Ratliff.
Bill was born on 12/6/24 in Pittsburgh, PA the son of Frank Lawson Carlysle and Alice Ebbert Carlysle. Soon after high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Radio Man aboard the LST 495, which saw action at Normandy in the D-Day invasion. He was employed before and after the war by Rockwell International. Bill was transferred by Rockwell to Atlanta in 1964 where he and his family settled in Tucker, almost immediately getting involved in the community. He served as Assistant Scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 129 for 30 years and was a founding member of the Tucker High School Band Boosters Club.
Bill loved to sing and sang in church choirs as a child, school choirs, the Rockwell glee club and most recently in the choir at Tucker First United Methodist Church. He encouraged both sons to play the trumpet as children and loved to attend the many concerts when they were performing. Bill also was an avid water skier, first learning the skill in the rough waters of Lake Michigan and continuing to ski at Lake Hartwell until he reached the age of 75. He was a member of the US LST Association and attended many conventions and reunions where he was able to reunite with some of his WWII shipmates. He was also a regular blood donor for the Red Cross and encouraged both of his sons to give the "Gift of Life" as well.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday September 9th at 2:00pm at the Tucker First United Methodist Church with visitation prior to the service starting at 12:00pm. Rev. Mike Cash will officiate the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Tucker First United Methodist Church, The American Red Cross or The Salvation Army.
