Mrs. Whitney was born December 7, 1944 in Brunswick to the late Clarence Newton Barwick and Nora Mae Bresse. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Lily Mae Shattuck; and her beloved son, Michael Bruse Whitney.
Mrs. Whitney worked for Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., for over 20 years. She loved music, crosswords and enjoyed laughter. Most of all, she loved her family who were everything to her.
She was such a giving person and never let anyone go without. Mrs. Whitney believed everyone should have a second chance — that was her heart. She was deeply loved and will be truly missed.
Survivors are a sister, Shirley Jean Blackwood; two brothers, Daniel Clarence Breese and Gary Lee Breese; two daughters, Lisa Marie Whitney and Michelle Ann Ballance; a son, Gary Paul Whitney, Jr.; four grandchildren Lisa Mae Slaughter, Ross Christopher Whitney, Cody Michael Whitney and Sara Lynn Pulford; and three great-grandchildren, Levi Michael Whitney, Madison Slaughter and Nevaeh Lewis.
The family would like to thank Hospice and all the family members for helping with the care of Mrs. Whitney.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 2 at 359 Brickyard Road in Waynesville in the early afternoon.
