Eddie G. Stewart, of Marina, California, passed away on March 7, 2014. He was born on April 4, 1931 in Olive Branch, Illinois. Eddie was the son of James Stewart, Sr. and Laura Forman. He entered the Army as a young man and served tours in Korea, Germany, Italy, Vietnam and at Ft. Ord, California. During his military career he earned the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge as well as other decorations. He retired from the Army in 1969 with rank of First Sergeant. He later worked for Firestone in Salinas prior to their plant closing.

Eddie's life's work was to operate the Bojuka Ryu Dojo, a judo training facility that helped train hundreds of boys, girls and adults over more than 50 years of careful teaching. He and Mrs. Stewart attended numerous judo tournaments taking their students with them. Mr. Stewart also operated the Bojuka Ryu Judo Tournament locally at Seaside High School in November.

He is survived by his wife, Tokuko Stewart; his sons, Eddie Jr. and Gerald; his sister, Mary Cotton; his brothers, Napoleon and Ernest; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. His daughter, Alsbrook Lauren preceded him in death.

Viewing was held on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Seaside Funeral Home at Mission Memorial Park, 1915 Ord Grove Ave., Seaside.

Funeral Services were held at the same facility on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00am, followed by Burial.

The family extends appreciation to Mr. Stewart's caregivers: Carlos English, Victor Perez, Jeffrey Edwards, Kazuko Peters, Joseph Ruffin III, Reuben Anderson III, Greg Anderson, as well as Dr. Mary Roberts and additional visiting VA nursing staff and everyone at CHOMP.
