David Neal Calvert, of New Plymouth returned to his heavenly home on August 28, 2017.

David was born June 23, 1935 in Sauk County, Wisconsin to Lora and Paul Calvert. After moving to McCall, Idaho, Dave joined the Boy Scouts and was very active and proud to be a Scout. In 1953, Dave graduated from McCall-Donnelly High School, moved to Boise and joined the Army Reserves. He married Claire Olson and together they raised 4 children. In the 1960’s, Dave was active in the Cathedral of the Rockies United Methodist Church as a Scoutmaster, sharing his leadership and passion with many Scouts. Dave was a Corporal with the Idaho State Police and served across the state. He married Susan Hemenway and together they raised 2 children. After retiring, Dave worked at the 4-H Summer Camp in Donnelly, volunteered at Trinity Pines in Cascade and was an active Mason. Finally settling in New Plymouth, he enjoyed spending time with his many grand and great-grandchildren, and reading. Dave was a generous and friendly man who loved God and helping people.

In his autobiography, Dave wrote, “I seem to always be happy with what I am doing. I believe that if you get up in the morning, do what you want and like all day, and go to bed feeling like you did a good job, you are a success in life.” His love for his family and his firm belief in God supported him during his journey with cancer and ultimately gave him peace.

Dave is survived by his children Monty (Janice) Calvert, Marty (Jay) Fraser, Ann (Jim) Hawkins, Kelly (David) Poe, Gregory (Jeanne) Calvert, and Melissa Castillo, his sister Martha (Mac) Eld, brother Dean Biggs, and their families.

A graveside service is scheduled for September 23, 2017, 11 a.m. at the McCall Cemetery in McCall, Idaho.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain State Tumor Institute, Heart ‘n Home Hospice & Palliative Care, and Lienkaemper-Thomason for their caring service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to MSTI-Fruitland.
