Mildred Dean Avant Grimes of Geneva passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 in a Dothan Hospital. She was 75 years old.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Ronnie Baine and Rev. Jim Corley officiating. Burial will follow in Leonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Grimes memory to Devco Baptist Church, 1008 Sizemore Hwy, Geneva, AL 36340.

Mrs. Grimes was born in Dale County, AL on January 19, 1945 to the late Floyd and Louise Avant. Mildred was a wonderful cook, but baking is where she excelled. She was affectionately known as “Granny” to everyone. Mrs. Grimes was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Jerry William Grimes, Jr.; and one great-granddaughter, Harley Piper Leavins.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Jerry Grimes of Geneva; two daughters Vanessa Birdno (Charles), and Sharon Palmer (Mark Enfinger) all of Geneva; five grandchildren, Daniel Allen O’Keefe (Angel) of Enterprise, Chase Palmer, Billy Bob Palmer, Caleb Kealoha (Denita), and Anela Childs (Brian) all of Geneva; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Travis Avant of Tupelo, MS; and one sister, Margarette Grimes (Jimmy) of Ozark, AL.
