Matthew Stevenson

January 29, 1930 - July 23, 2017

A native of Renfrew, Scotland he moved to Maryland in December 1952 to follow the love of his life, Wilhelmina. They were married in June of 1953.

He earned his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Glasgow and had military training at the Edinburgh Castle. After moving to America he worked as a hydrodynamicsist for the University of Maryland then as a mechanical engineer for Robert Taggart, Inc followed by M. Rosenblatt and Sons until he retired in 1992. He and his wife moved to San Diego after retirement.

Music was his passion. For 45 years he performed in local theater productions both in Maryland and in California. He played Ike Skidmore in the First Community Theatre Summerstock Production of Oklahoma at Poway Center for the Performing Arts. The National Shrine Chorale in Washington DC , The Rockville Chorus and the Rancho Bernardo Chorale provided him many years to showcase his tenor voice.

Matthew is survived by his children and their spouses, Maureen Roadman (Reed) Elise O'Loughlin (Edward) , Matthew Stevenson (Tracy) Willie Stevenson (Nancy) and Gregory Stevenson (Sharon) , 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

His loving nurses, Sheila, Rosette, Angel and Nelly thought of him as their papa. They cared for him every day to make sure he was comfortable for over 10 years and became a special part of the Stevenson/Roadman family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wilhelmina in 2001.
