GENEVIEVE MARIE "JEANNIE" NICHOLS (YOUNT) PACE

OBITUARY

Genevieve Marie "Jeannie" Pace

June 19, 1929 - June 3, 2017

Genevieve "Jeannie" Pace was born June 19, 1929, in Loma, Colorado to Carl Nichols and Grace Akers Nichols. She grew up on a farm in Loma and attended Loma Elementary. She attended and graduated Fruita Union High School in 1947.

After graduation she worked for Casey's Restaurant in Fruita and the Shamrock Drive Inn in Grand Junction.

She married Alvin Yount in 1949. They had three children, Larry, Daniel, and Robert. They were later divorced and Jeannie married James "Jim" Pace in 1957. Jim adopted Larry, Daniel, and Robert, and the couple had two of their own, James and Cindi.

Jim was a miner in Telluride, CO and was killed in a mine in 1963.

She and the children moved to Pendleton, OR in 1964, where she managed a Green Stamp Store. She attended Blue Mountain Business College from 1967 - 1968, graduating with an associates degree. She managed Conrads Mademoisell Dress Shop for two years, then went to work as a cook at Pendleton Junior High for ten years. In 1990, she went to work for her son, Larry, in his tax office. In 1996, she was diagnosed with emphysema.

Family was everything to Jeannie; she was a mom and grandma to many more than her own. She enjoyed baking, canning, crocheting and sewing. Sewing kept her busy and she loved to make quilts.

She is survived by children, Larry (Alison), Bob (Roalynn), Jim (Judy), and Cindi (Jack); 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; son, Danny; brother and sister-in-law, Carl Jr. and Patti; paternal grandmother, Grace Nichols, and grandchildren, Kristopher and Tosha.

A celebration of life service was held in June in Oregon.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Jim Pace, in Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita at a later date.
