DECATUR -- Floyd “Slim” Albert Cooper, 85, of Decatur went to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Aspen Creek, Sullivan, lL.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 1, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Decatur, with visitation from 9 – 11 a.m. Interment will follow the memorial service at Boiling Springs Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Association. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd was born September 6, 1931, in rural Macon County, the son of Victor and Bessie (Weikel) Cooper. He married Norma Crow on September 5, 1959.

After graduating from Warrensburg High School in 1949, Floyd proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. Floyd was an active member of the KWVA and participated in the Tell America Program, visiting area schools. In 2013 he was able to go on a trip to Washington D.C. with the Honor Flight.

Floyd retired from Cross Bros. Implement, Mt. Pulaski, IL. After retiring Floyd was employed by Larry Kraft and enjoyed doing farm work every spring and fall. Floyd also liked to volunteer and did so for many years with Hospice, DMH and Golden “K” Kiwanis Club. Floyd was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

Floyd is survived by his wife Norma of 57 years. Daughters, Leesa (Richard) Lauderdale of Streator, Laura (Bruce) Brown of Decatur. Grandchildren; Aaron (Bre) Armon, Amanda (Blake) Conkle, Aaliyah Armon, Ashtyn Armon, Richard (Megan) Lauderdale Jr., Katherine Lauderdale, Morgan Brown and 4 great grandchildren, sister Mary Lou Cooper of New Orleans, Louisiana, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Gary and Gloria Shutter. The family will deeply miss Floyd for he was a loving husband, father and grandfather

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Cooper.
