Evelyn R. Garrett, 84, a resident and native of Morgan City, LA, passed away on
Tuesday June 28, 2016 at 11:40 AM at her residence surrounded by family and
friends.
Having a desire to be a servant for the Lord and believing in Psalm 84:10, "For
a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in
the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness." Mrs. Garrett
served faithfully on the New Zorah Baptist Church Usher Board at one time
serving as the Usher Board President. She also worked in other auxiliaries of
her church as well. Her home on Bowman Street was always open to anyone.
Visitation will be observed on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the New Zorah Baptist
Church 604 Julia Street Morgan City, LA, from 9:00 AM until funeral services at
1:00 PM. The Reverend Terry L. Joseph, Sr. will officiate the services.
Burial will follow funeral services in the Morgan City Cemetery in Morgan
City.
Memories of Evelyn will forever remain in the hearts of her three sons, Earl
Garrett, Jr. and his wife, Lileen of Lawton, OK, James Garrett and his wife
Patricia of Lafayette, LA and Darwin Garrett and his wife Andrea of Reno, NV;
five daughters, Edwena Craft and her husband Milton, Cassandra Garrett and
Patricia Davis and her husband, Reginald "RIP" all of Morgan City, LA; Vanessa
Garrett-Francis and her husband Nigel of Los Angeles, CA, Lenora Jones and her
husband, Etoyi, Sr. of Patterson, LA and Tiffany Crayton and her husband
Alejandra, Sr. of Detroit, MI; an aunt, Thelma Agnes Bill of Morgan City, LA;
twenty-nine grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and a host of
great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Garrett, Sr., her parents,
Napoleon Ruffin, Sr. and those who raised her, Allen and Leola G. Harris; a
granddaughter, Amber Renee' Craft; a grandson, Jarvis "Jaw-Man" Francis and two
brothers, Robert Smith and Napoleon Ruffin, Jr..
