Lt. Michael Gates
June 8, 1964 - August 25, 2017
 
Funeral services for Lt. Michael Gates will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at The Pentecostals of Alexandria, Alexandria, Louisiana with Revs. Anthony Mangun, Gentry Mangun, Gene Decker & Carl Wheatley officiating.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn, Ball, with Veterans Honors conducted by the Pineville Police Department Honor Guard. Services are under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, Louisiana.
 
Lt. Gates, age 53, of Pineville, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Friday, April 21, 2017 in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.

Michael gave his life to God at an early age. He attended Paradise Elementary School, Tioga Junior High and Tioga High before graduating from Pineville High. He then graduated from Louisiana College with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and then attended LSU Baton Rouge for graduate studies. Michael then became a Loss Prevention manager for K-Mart and then became a police officer for the City of Pineville for twenty-six years. He became a paramedic with MedExpress Ambulance and he was a funeral assistant with Rush Funeral Home along the way. After retirement he became a park attendant at Colfax RV Park in Colfax. Michael was faithful to God, attending the Pentecostals of Alexandria as a lifelong member where he served as an usher, Sunday School teacher, Roman Soldier in "Messiah", and ministry team leader. He also served as Assistant Pastor at White Dove Pentecostal Church under Pastor Gene Decker for three years.
 
Lt. Gates is preceded in death by his grandfathers, D. Z. Boyd and his great grandparents, Lovey & Maxine Ratcliff of Pineville & grandson of Jesse Hamilton Gates Sr. & Rosa Mae (Dukes) Gates.
 
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 18 years, Christy; his son, Matthew Kyle (Natasha) of Pineville; his grandchildren, Shea Tester and Zathan Gates; his father, Chester T. Gates (Linda) of Pineville; his mother, Wanda Boyd Hyde (Bob) of Pineville and his grandmother, Dorothy Boyd of Pineville.
 
Visitation will be at Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 5:00 - 9:00 pm and will resume at The Pentecostals of Alexandria on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 9:00 am until time of service.
