Bessie Mae Caldwell
Bessie was born on March 21, 1920 in Marshall, North Carolina to Manuel J. Caldwell and Minnie Sherlin.
Bessie married her first husband Ralph William Davis on September 5, 1942 in Buncombe County, North Carolina. Ralph was killed while in service on February 8, 1945 on Louzon Island in the Philippines.
Bessie married her second husband Joseph Anthony Bonar in Greenville, South Carolina. They had two children together.
Bessie died in a hospital near or in Newfane, New York, in Niagra County, on November 4, 1969.
Her obituary printed in The News-Record on November 6, 1969, states she died after a short illness. I found Joseph Anthony Bonar's FindAGrave memorial page (# 67674560), it stated that he died of pneumonia while awaiting trial for the murder of his wife. I cannot find any information online to verify that claim. If anyone else can find information about Bessie's death, please send it to me and I will add it on this memorial.
At this time I do not feel compelled to connect Bessie's memorial with her husband Joseph Bonar's.
Her obituary also says that her body was brought home to Madison County and she was to be interred at the Ramsey Cemetery. While there are several Ramsey Cemeteries in Madison County, this is the only one that has other Caldwells buried within it. If this is not the correct cemetery I will gladly correct the mistake. Until I can visit beautiful Madison again and find her stone myself, or until someone living nearby this cemetery can find it, I'll leave Miss Bessie here for now.
