Celinda Braffett and her twin sister Marinda were born in 1834 in Darke County, Ohio, the daughters of Silas Braffett and Mary Woods.

Celinda married William J. Campbell in 1853 in Grant County, Indiana, and they started across the plains that year for California. They made the journey of six months in an ox-team train to Placer County where William followed mining until about 1857. William then located on government land which he cleared and improved, and he engaged in stock raising. For the 1860 census, the family was living in Granite, Sacramento County. Later William set out orchards and vineyards. In time he sold this place and purchased another which he also sold and in this way he owned several ranches. For the 1880 census, the family was living in Soquel, Santa Cruz County. William died on his ranch in the Highland district in 1886 at the age of 48 leaving his widow and nine children. Celinda sold the ranch and purchased another in the Summit district, where she reared the family. For the 1900 and 1910 census enumerations, Celinda was living in Soquel.

Celinda died in 1912 at the age of 78. She is buried in an older section of Los Gatos Memorial Park in an unmarked grave in a plot purchased by her son Frank M. Campbell.
