Mr. Marcus Lorenzo Jones, affectionately known as "Quack" departed this life on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Marcus was born December 7, 1950 to Leola Pettiford Jones and the late Louis "Buddy" Jones in Petersburg, Va. He attended Petersburg Public Schools until 1968. Marcus was incarcerated as a juvenile, spending much of his adult life in various Virginia Correctional Facilities. Marcus accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior while incarcerated time. Upon his release back to Petersburg he immediately started counselling young people on how to avoid incarceration. His work with young people was done in the Heights Community of Petersburg until his passing. Marcus was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother and faithful friend. He is survived by two sons, Marcello "Arby" Walker (Alma) and Mark Crocker (Vanessa); seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; mother, Leola Pettiford Jones; sister, Gloria Pettiford of Petersburg, VA; brothers, Theodore Jones of College Park, GA, Marcellus Jones (Onetha) of Jonesboro, GA and Bryant Jones (Crystal) of Chester, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends mourning and celebrating his home going. Service for Mr. Marcus L. Jones was held 1:00 P.M., Friday, August 25, 2017 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Avenue, Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, Pastor, eulogist. Interment followed at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery. The family assembled 12:00 Noon the day of the service and received friends at 2554 Warner Road, Petersburg, Va.
