August 22, 1917 - August 14, 2017
Mrs. Willie Mae Cunningham Pearson, affectionately known as “Ma”, was born in Labuca, Alabama on August 22, 1917.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Willie Dan Pearson and had one son.
She came to Bradford and joined Shady Grove Baptist Church June 15, 1939 and served faithfully until her health failed.
She was a domestic worker and worked as a dishwasher at the Rock School in Pinson until retirement.
Mrs. Pearson had a desire to attend the Birmingham Easonian Bible College. Determined to achieve this goal, she learned to drive at the age of 62 so that she could get to her classes. She graduated and earned a diploma in Theology.
Mrs. Pearson loved her church and community. She was very active, serving on the Pastor’s Aid Board, as a Sunday School teacher, president of the Senior Choir, Missionary Society president, and president of the Bethlehem Blount Springs District Baptist Association Women’s Auxiliary. Around the neighborhood she was known for selling homemade ice cream and she loved fishing.
In her later years, she became sick and unable to care for herself. The Lord blessed her faithfulness by providing her with a caretaker, Carolyn Wright who cared for her like a member of her own family until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Sam Cunningham; sister, Mary Johnson; and grandson, Kenneth Pearson. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Marshall (Brenda) Pearson; her extended family, the Lewis’, Alexander’s, and Jones-Marshall’s; special friends, Rosetta McCaskey, James Saxton, and Walter “Dooley” Williams; and a host of friends and church family who loved her dearly.
