Reverend Kenneth F. Lawrence, 82, Pastor Emeritus of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia, passed away on August 24, 2017. Born on October 7, 1934 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Earl J. and Ethel M. (Wolf) Lawrence.

As a young man, he was a member of St. Vincent Parish in Hanover and attended the parish grade school. Upon completing the eighth grade he entered St. Charles Minor Seminary in Catonsville, Maryland. He spent four years completing high school and two years of college courses. After completing his studies at St. Charles, he transferred to St. Mary Major Seminary in Baltimore.

It was there that he completed his college course work and spent an additional four years studying philosophy and theology. Most Reverend George L. Leech, Bishop of Harrisburg, ordained Father Lawrence on May 14, 1960 in St. Patrick Cathedral in Harrisburg. The next day he offered his first Solemn Mass in his home parish of St. Vincent de Paul in Hanover.

His career as a priest spanned 57 years and his first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. Joseph Church in Lancaster. He later served as assistant pastor at St. Mary Church in York, St. Theresa in New Cumberland and then back to York for assignment at St. Joseph Parish.

In 1973, he was named pastor at St. Andrew Church in Waynesboro, Franklin County, serving ten years. His next pastoral assignment was St. Francis Xavier Church in Gettysburg, where he served over eleven years.

On March 9, 1994, Most Reverend Nicholas C. Dattilo, Bishop of Harrisburg, assigned Father Lawrence as the eighth pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Columbia. After more than 21 years as pastor, he retired on the Feast of the Assumption, August 15, 2015 and was named Pastor Emeritus with residence at Holy Trinity.

While at Holy Trinity he had additional duties as one of a handful of priest consultors who advised the Bishop. He also served as a member of the Diocesan Finance Council and was the Dean of the Northern Deanery in Lancaster County for 20 years.
