Charity was born in what was known as Liberty, Georgetown District; before that, it was Craven, South Carolina. Today, it is Dillon County, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Nancy Ann Smith and Christopher Dew. Christopher is a decendant of Colonel Thomas Dew of Dew Point, Virginia. Thomas owned several Plantations in the Carribbean, as well as his plantation that is now a Naval base and city dump, in Hampton, Virginia. He became a Quaker late in life.

* Partial Excerpt- On Feb. 16th 1623, Thomas Doe ux Doe (sic) Dewe were counted living in the Maine River District of James City.
Thomas and his wife Anne Helmes Dew and family arrived in Virginia on August 7th 1623. Owned over 60,000 Acres of land in Virginia, Lived in Nansemond Co 1642-1660.
Thomas Dew served as burgess in 1623, for "Henricus" (Henrico County) in 1629, Archer's Hope in 1642, and 1652 in Nansemond Counties. He also served, beginning 31 March 1655, as member of the Council.*

Charity's Father, Christopher, Owned vast barony of lands on the Great Pee Dee river. Made his home on the Pocosin Swamp where he died from a tree falling on him, the same day his daughter Henrietta (sister of Charity) married Bryant Lane. They had to hold the wedding, as her Father's body lay in the livingroom of the house in Wake. In his Will dated June 27, 1827, he left hundreds of acres of land each, to his children and grandchildren.

Charity gave birth, to an undiscovered man, to two or three children before she married Thomas Aquilla Wise. Two of them are Hugh C. Dew b.1810 and Moore Dew b.1812.

I have no proof, yet, that she is buried in the Dew Family cemetery, but I believe that she is. Her son James Christopher Wise is.
