Mr. Darren Mathew Cox, 47, of Oneida, Illinois died at 9:00 pm Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born July 29, 1970 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Jan Michael and Pearl M. Abel Cox. He married Jennifer Lynn Genisio on May 25, 2000 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his children, Jacob Nathaniel, Kenneth Wayne, Dathan Mathew and Emily Ann Cox all at home; his father, Jan M. “Toby” (Virgi) Cox of Galesburg and his mother, Pearl M. (Royal) Moore of London Mills, Illinois five brothers, Michael Cox of Cameron, Illinois, James Dean “JD” Cox of Kewanee, Illinois, Lynn Moore of London Mills, Rory Moore of Galesburg, Ray (Heather) Moore of London Mills; his step sister Carrie Milan of Galesburg and his step brother, Todd Anders of Galesburg. He is preceded in death by a son, Shawn Austin Cox on August 28, 2001.
Darren had worked for maintenance for Knox College for 14 years and also for Sam Mangieri. He had worked for the Galesburg Foundry and Thrushwood Farms. He last had worked for Karmark Tire and Auto as a lube tech. Darren had received his GED and attended Carl Sandburg College in the welding department. He was of the Methodist faith. He loved baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Darren also enjoyed watching NASCAR. He loved most being a father to his kids and a husband to Jennifer.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Rodney Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family to establish an education fund for the children.
