Leon Eugene Gates passed away peacefully August 23, 2017 at the age of 86.
He was born August 4, 1931 in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Nathan E. and Emma Jewell Moore Gates. He graduated from McCammon High School then married Dorene Lewis in 1950. They had four children together. They later divorced. He married Dorothy May Dunn in 1999 and they were later sealed in the St. George Temple.
Leon was a meat cutter by trade and owned a grocery store in Lava for 27 years. He was on the Lava City Council and active in the Lava Lions Club. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints served in many positions.
He is survived by his children, David L. (Deborah) Gates, DeLayne (Michael) Henderson, Rachelle (Richard) Hollinger, and Bruce E. (Vickie) Gates. He also had two step children Michael M Jones and Tari Lynn Price, 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Laura Jean, and two grandchildren, Jeffery D. Hollinger and Seth R. Gates.
Funeral services will be held August 29, 2017, at the Lava L.D.S. church at 11:00 with a viewing before the funeral from 10:00-10:45. Burial will be in the Lava Cemetery.
