Jerry Joe Mitchan, Sr., born October 24, 1929, went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2007 at the age of 77.
He married his devoted wife, Shirley, in October, 1971. Jerry joined the Merchant Marines in 1943 and served honorably in the United States Army until 1956; and retired in 1990 from Kerr McGee Oil. Upon retiring, he and Shirley enjoyed traveling for many years. Jerry was a devoted Christian and loved his family. His parents were Emil and Angelina Mitchan and brother, Junior Mitchan, all preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley; sons, Jerry Joe (Diane), David Wayne, Michael Anton, and Charles Petty (Trisha), daughters; Kathryn Schrader and Sharon Farlinger (Jim); grandchildren, Kyle Mitchan, Donika Mitchan, Crystal McMullen, Emily Mitchan, Michael Ryan Mitchan, Nicole Mitchan, and Robert Jennell, Chelsey Schrader, Scott Schrader, Travis Schrader; great grandson, Steven Allen; sisters, Janie Bodwell, Maryann Benes, Evelyn (Marion) Ridgley and sister-in-law, Anne Mitchan, brother, Leroy Mitchan (Ann); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and funeral services were held March 6 & 7, 2007 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Seaside Memorial Park.
