102 years of joy, blessings and one-of-a-kind stories will be treasured in the hearts of all who were blessed to be touched by the life of Bill Alonzo. Bill passed away peacefully on Aug. 20. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores. He is survived by his son, Bruce (Youn Seun); daughter, Jean (Les); grandchildren, Suzanne (Beto) and Kathleen (Keith); and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon, Christina and Lauren.

Bill was born June 8, 1915 in San Pablo, CA to Dominic Alonzo (originally from Sora, Italy) and Julia Scarpetta (originally from Vacaville). In 1918, his family moved to Vacaville to start a fruit ranch named "Sunset Ranch". Upon graduation from high school in 1933, Bill was ready to explore a world outside of fruit ranching and moved to Richmond where he landed a job with Standard Oil Company as a merchant mariner sailing the seas to Hawaii, the Panama Canal and elsewhere. Subsequently, a series of life events blessed him with opportunities to meet many influential people such as former President of Mexico Lazaro Cardenas, former Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard just to name a few. In 1939, he married his "sweetheart", Dolores, and started a family who he cherished, was fiercely devoted to and proud of. Bill will be lovingly remembered as a devoted family man with a bright, positive, sweet, sunny disposition and a beautiful smile, and he will truly be missed.

To quote Bill at his 100th birthday celebration, "Keep a stiff upper lip, look always on the bright side. Open the door and see the sunshine and hear the birds sing. Don't ever let your temper get the best of you and eat pasta".

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center and NorthBay Hospice and Bereavement for their loving care in his final days.

Arrangements are under the care of McCune Garden Chapel. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bill's name to NorthBay Hospice and Bereavement 4520 Business Ctr Dr #160, Fairfield 94534
