Rachel Robertson Small Rountree, 92, of Suffolk, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002. Born on Oct. 12, 1909 in Mt. Gould, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Patrick Henry and Flora Pierce Robertson, and widow of Lycurqus Jerome Small. Mrs. Rountree was predeceased by her sons, Henry Malcolm Small, L.J. Small Jr., and her granddaughter, Keely Dean Small. Mrs. Rountree formerly worked at Planters, had retired from J.C. Penney Co., and then worked for Barr Brothers Jewelry Co. Survivors include her sisters, Elsie Garrison of Chesapeake, Elizabeth Byrum of Corapeake, N.C., and Gladys Andrews of Richmond; daughters-in-law, Mildred H. Small of Suffolk, Rita D. Small of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Cameron Currin with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to the Eureka Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 68, Corapeake, N.C. 27926.
