Harold was born April 10, 1935, in Amarillo to Ethel Hartman Daniel and Ray S. Daniel. He married Barbara Beck of Canyon on June 3, 1957, in the Polk Street Chapel. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1953 and was awarded a scholarship to Yale University.

After graduation in 1957, he entered Southern Methodist University, where he earned a master's degree in theology. He served as campus minister at the University of Wyoming and at Montana State University before pursuing a doctoral degree in behavioral science and educational research at Nova University.

While studying for the degree, he was asked to coordinate an off-campus master's degree program in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, where he collected data and wrote his dissertation on predicting the educability of the functionally illiterate.

After three years in Venezuela, the family returned to Amarillo where he worked as a health planner before he became associate minister at Polk Street Methodist Church, where he served for 13 years before retiring to New Mexico to begin tree farming.

While living in Amarillo, he served on several boards, including Wesley Community Center, the American Red Cross, Friends of the Library (chair), Men's Garden Club (chair) and the Amarillo Ministerial Alliance. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed a wide range of reading. He also enjoyed visiting with family and close friends, watching sporting events and pursuing ranching interests with his brother-in-law, Don Beck.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; children, Colin and Delia Daniel of Bozeman, Mont., Alicia Daniel and husband Jim McCobb of Burlington, Vt., Trevor Daniel and wife Shawn Ralston of Missoula, Mont., and Andrea McKinney and husband Blake of Salem, Ore.; and grandchildren, Amanda and Colin Daniel, Camille and Emma McCobb, Ben, Mark and Will Ralston-Daniel, and Braxton, Lillie and Daniel Ben McKinney.
