Sarah Elizabeth Chapman, age 85, of Milwaukie, Oregon, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016. She was born at Cottage Grove, Oregon on February 18, 1931. She graduated from Cottage Grove High School with her beloved twin sister, Janet in 1948. She then went on to be one of the first three women to earn a degree in Pharmacy from Oregon State University when she graduated in 1952. She truly loved her work as a pharmacist and kept her license active through continuing education until her mid-70's. She married Milo Chapman in 1953 and became a professing Christian, following the faith of her husband shortly after. Milo and Sarah remained together for 63 years until her death. They had five children, losing one to a crib death (SIDS) in 1957 and raising the remaining children in Cottage Grove, Klamath Falls and Newberg, Oregon. They hosted a weekly church meeting and were continual friends and helpers of those in need for the duration of their marriage. Sarah was an avid reader, a lover of poetry, and a strong advocate for education helping not only her own children, but also her grandchildren to achieve the best education possible. Sarah and Milo downsized to homes in Lake Oswego and King City, Oregon in 2005 and when their health started to far, moved to assisted living in Milwaukie,Oregon in 2012. Sarah was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ida and Wayne Jenkins and her infant daughter, Amy Louise. She is survived by four children, Douglas, Kenneth, Julia and Jean Chapman, her grandchildren Amy Saha, Charlie Thompson, Julia and Kylee Jacobsen and Kelly and Christian Chapman, her beloved twin sister Janet Mead, her brother Howard Jenkins as well as many, many additional relatives and friends. Sarah's memorial service was a joint service for both she and her husband, Milo, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Willamette Falls in Oregon City on January 16, 2017. Though an ice storm had descended on the area the service was attended by over 300 people and was followed by potluck at that location. In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to the Alzhiemers Foundation.
