Lauren E. “Andy” Andrews, 78, of Glocester passed away peacefully on August 19, 2017 in the Greenville Skilled Nursing Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Joan “Cap” Conroy Andrews for 53 years,

Son of the late Dr. Egbert M. Andrews and Barbara Stevens Andrews, he was born and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut where he attended The Kingswood School. He went on to Brown University, graduating with an AB degree in Economics.

He entered the Navy and earned the rank of LTJG. He served aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Lake Champlain during the Cuban Missile Crisis
.
After leaving the Navy, Andy attended Trinity College, earned his Teaching Certificate, and then taught math and English in Providence and later at the Rectory School in Pomfret, Connecticut. He eventually left teaching and began a long career in banking, primarily in commercial loans. During this time, he attended and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He ended his banking career as Senior Vice President and Senior Loan Officer at Citizens National Bank (now Bank Hometown).

Throughout his life, Andy spent many hours in various community endeavors. He ran for office and was elected Treasurer of the Town of Glocester and was later a member of the Glocester Budget Committee. He was a member, president and treasurer of the Glocester Heritage Society, and a member and treasurer of the Glocester Lions Club. Andy was also a longtime member and treasurer of the Danielson Rotary and a member of Danielson Chamber of Commerce.

Andy will be greatly missed. besides his wife, he leaves his son Ben Andrews and daughter-in-law Dr. Jo-Ann Petrucci Andrews. He also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren Ryan, Crystal and her Fiancé Ken, as well as a cherished great-grandson, Joshua. Andy will also be dearly missed by his sister and her husband, Jane and Prentice Slaten, as well as his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally and Kenneth Young. He will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews

Funeral services were from the Anderson Winfield Funeral Home, Smithfield. Following this, church services were held at St. Paul’s Church, Foster. Burial with military honors, followed at Acotes Hill Cemetery, 1049 Putnam Pike, Chepachet, RI
