Derek Thompson, age 28, of Rolette, ND passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Hospital, Bottineau, ND.

Derek Andrew Thompson was born on July 13, 1989 in Rolla, ND to Travis Thompson and Laura (Domben) Pfeifer. Derek grew up in Rolette and completed his education at Rolette High School, graduating in 2008. He furthered his education at NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND obtaining an Associates of Applied Science degree in the John Deere Tech program. After completion of his degree in 2010, he began working for Gooseneck Implement in Rugby, ND, where he continued to work until the time of his death. He was the proud father of a son, Carter (age 7). Derek enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting with his brother, Dad, uncle, and grandfather and duck/goose hunting with his brother and friends. Derek also enjoyed snowmobiling and working on his mud truck and mudding with his buddies. He loved spending time with his son, putting together Legos, watching movies, and simply just being together. Derek’s family was very important to him, as he spent much of his time with his brother, along with his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. From a very early age, one of Derek’s favorite places to be was Grandpa Arne’s farm. Derek enjoyed being around the cows, tagging calves, and making hay. Derek also enjoyed fixing engines and tinkering on equipment-he was most comfortable peering under the hood of a vehicle, repairing balers, and having a generous layer of grease and dirt on his hands. Derek was an important part of so many lives that loved him dearly. He will forever be remembered and greatly missed.

Derek is survived by his son, Carter Thompson of Ada, MN; parents, Laura (Tim) Pfeifer of Rugby and Travis (Julie Pfeifer) Thompson of Rolette; brothers, Aaron Thompson, Jaden Pfeifer, and Jalen Pfeifer, all of Rolette; sister, Jessie (Ryan Steinhaus) Azure of Fargo; grandparents, Arne and Jean Domben and Tommy and Suzie Thompson, all of Rolette; aunts and uncles, Tina (Shawn) Kessel of Wahpeton, Amy Jo (Brian) Leonard of Rolette, Todd (Lisa) Thompson of Towner, Danny Domben of Rolette, Todd (Ellen) Domben of Edinburg, Laurie (Bryan) Nelson of Grand Forks, Jan (Dale) Trosen of Larimore, Cheri DePlazes of Lisbon, Guy (Lisa) Azure of Rockford, MI, and Shawn (Holly) Azure of Muscle Shoals, AL; one niece, Julia; and many cousins. Derek is also survived by an amazing circle of friends.

Derek was preceded in death by his great grandparents.
