Laura Pickens

Laura Pickens bravely lost her courageous battle with cancer on January 16, 2014 at the age of 60. She was born in Port Arthur, TX on January 15, 1954.

Laura graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 1972 and received her Associate of Arts degree in Dental Hygiene from Lamar University in Beaumont. Working as a Dental Hygienist for over 30 years, she bonded with her patients who thought of her as family, and the feeling was mutual.

She was an integral part of the Montgomery ISD School Board, tirelessly giving her time for 6 years. Laura traveled extensively in the US as well as abroad with her husband Frank. She was never without a smile and loved sharing good times with the numerous friends she made over the years. Her love of family was evident throughout the year, especially on holidays when she truly loved to entertain.

Laura was preceded in death by her father, Arnold Davis, and brother, Robert Davis. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Frank; mother Virginia Davis; son Brian Hale and wife Celeste; grandchildren Isaac Russ and Julia Russ; step daughter Kim Rodriguez and husband Robert; step son Greg Pickens and fiancée Danielle; step granddaughters Melanie Rodriguez, Meagan Cole and husband Josh; step great grandson Conner Cole; sisters: Janis Davis, Becky Buck and husband Doug; niece Kristine Canestorp and husband Eric; great nephews Andy Geiser and Owen Canestorp; great niece Kylie Canestorp; and numerous cousins and friends.

A celebration of laura's life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Walden Yacht Club, 13101 Melville Drive, Montgomery, TX 77356.

Laura was actively involved in Golfers Against Cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions in Laura's name be made to: Golfers Against Cancer, Walden Golf Club, 13301 Walden Road, Montgomery, TX 77356.
