Born Sept. 4, 1939, in Rockville, Md., he lived in Germantown, Md., before moving to Washington Township three months ago.
An Army veteran, he served in the 101st Airborne Division. Mr. Shipe was a self-employed general contractor before retiring this year. He was a member of Greenridge Baptist Church, Clarksburg, Md., and Apollo Elks.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Linda Hone Shipe; a son, Kenneth (Melissa) Shipe of Maryland; two daughters, Michelle Morten of Maryland and Lisa Nix of Aurora, Colo.; two stepsons, Lee Grazetti of San Antonio and Erik Grazetti of Washington, D.C.; a stepdaughter, Paula Grazetti of Apollo; 11 grandchildren; his mother, May Seekford Shipe Shoemaker of Germantown, Md.; three brothers, Lyle Shipe of Germantown, Md., Leonard (Nancye) Shipe of Damascus, Md., and Carroll (Mary Jane) Shipe of Laytonsville, Md.; and a sister, Barbara Smith of Rockville, Md.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Kump, and his father, Edward Shipe.
Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, Md.
