My nana Gene was the glamour girl par excellence. She won the Coca-Cola most beautiful girl contest in Quebec City when she was 17. Born to a family of 11 children, she along with her 8 sisters were keen swimmers. They would swim across the St. Lawrence River in Quebec City and even made the newspapers for it. Nana worked in a munitions factory for the war effort. She was then swept off her feet by a dashing dark and handsome man, my grandfather Denis Drouin, who married her in 1939. She had four children, three daughters and one son. In order of their birth: Nycoll, Camille, Pierre and Denise. She followed her husband Denis to Montreal where he took his actor and comedian talents to new heights. Beginning in radio, he moved to television and cinema and was soon a household name as the sidekick and straight man to the famous Olivier Guimond. Although Papy wasn't home very often (he was always on tour), Nana was very proud to be his wife. After her husband's death in 1978, she did not remarry.
