F. X. Plaunt Buried in Renfrew Cemetery
Arriving in Renfrew by train early Saturday from his home in Westmount, the body of F.X. Plaunt, who died in a Toronto hospital Wednesday last in his 76th year following a short illness, rested at the McPhail funeral home until 11 a.m., thus affording old friends opportunity to pay their respects. Funeral service had been held in Westmount.
Interment was in the family plot in Thomsonville cemetery, near to the graves of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Plaunt, and to that of his grandfather, Xavier Plaunt, who in pioneer days gave free sites to churches and schools and sold to the first railroad ground for station and yards for a nominal sum so that Renfrew might flourish.
Mr. Plaunt was well-known in Ottawa business circles for a number of years as president of the Harris Tie and Timber Company. On his retirement from business he moved from Ottawa to Westmount.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary E. Butterworth, of Westmount; five daughters, Mrs. Geoffrey Machell, Toronto, Mrs Harry Houghton, New York City, Mrs. C. L. Huggins, London, Eng., Mrs. J. A. De Watteville, Montreal, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Alan B. Plaunt, and two brothers, J. M. Plaunt, of Renfrew, and H. P. Plaunt, of Ottawa.
