Jeffrey John "Jeff" Richards, 64

April 28, 1953 ~ August 18, 2017

Jeff was born and raised in Blair, Nebraska, and attended Blair High school where he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for golf.

He earned his teaching degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and started his teaching career in Bennington, Nebraska. He later moved to the insurance industry as an independent agent spanning a career of over 40 years.

Jeff Richards, age 64 of Blair, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and golfing buddy left this world much too soon on Friday, Aug. 18.

If quality of life is determined by rounds of golf, then Jeff had an amazing life!! His well-recognized Nebraska license plate was GLFR GUY

His passion for golf was only surpassed by the love he had for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Sue Neff-Richards of Blair; daughter Heather and husband John Dennis of San Francisco, Calif.; granddaughter Devan Dennis, and beloved neighborhood grandkids Madyson, Toby and Ryan Ray.

Visitation will be held Tuesday Aug. 22nd at Campbell Aman Funeral Home beginning at 3 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Lutheran Church in Blair on Wednesday, Aug. 23rd at 2 p.m. Pastor Amy Krejcarek will conduct the services. Jeff often attended chapel at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home while Pastor Amy was there. Musical selections will be "Here I Am Lord", "You Raise Me Up", and "Amazing Grace". Graveside services will follow in the Blair Cemetery. The family requests, in memory of Jeff, that golf attire or casual clothing be worn by those who attend.

The Golfer's Prayer
Enlighten me today, Lord, as I approach the looming tees.
Allow me to hit straight and far, and avoid the nearby trees.
Grassy, narrow, winding fairways fill by view up to the hole.
Let my shots fly true, Oh Lord, and give my golf ball a good roll.
Encourage me not to anger when I swing and things go wrong.

Bless me with patience to know my next ball could go long.
If one day I outplay my group, and beat all my scores from the past,
Remind me to be humble; next time I could be last.
Deliver my golf shots over still waters and avoid sand trap banks.
I find peace in You when out of bounds due to hooks, slices, and shanks.
Enjoyment comes from knowing your love for a golfer like me is true.

Playing golf is just a game; the real contest is living for You.
All I ask is for Your Grace, to play righteously through the last hole.
Renewing my Faith in You, Oh Lord, and restoring this Golfer's Soul.

I am so sorry to hear this news of Jeff's passing. We worked together over many years at Iowa National Insurance. Jeff was always the most positive person even during difficult times. If there is a good golf course in heaven I'm sure Jeff has already played his first round, May he RIP.--Don & Linda Kamins
