Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau.
Mrs. Lewis was a native and resident of Bellevue for most of her life and had been living in Church Point and Lafayette with her daughter since 2001. She was a parishioner of Christ The King Mission Church in Bellevue and Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph Floyd Lewis, Sr. of Scott, John Marion Lewis, Sr. of Duson and John Harold Lewis, Sr. and his wife, Shirley of Church Point; three daughters, Joann Girourd of Lafayette, Corinne Ann Lewis of Crowley and Jacqueline Darjean of Lafayette; and her godchildren, Charles Richard and Steven Lewis. Viola was a fifth generation grandmother with forty-four grandchildren, one hundered and fourteen great grandchildren; fifty great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Lewis, Sr.; her parents, Joseph West Richard and the former Irene Charlot; four sons, Larry James Lewis, Sr., Joseph Frank Lewis, Sr., Horace Lewis, Jr. and Carroll James Lewis; two daughters, Patricia Rae Horn and Sandra Rose Mitchell; three brothers, Lester Richard, Sr., Roy Richard and Marris Richard; and one sister, Pearl Guidry.
A rosary will be prayed at 9:30a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
The family requests visiting hours be observed from 7:30a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday.
