Doris V. Baxter went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2016. She was born in Princess Anne County to the late Eugene and Marinda White. Doris was a member of First Lynnhaven Baptist Church since the age of 12. Where she participated in the Women’s Fellowship Ministry and an active in the Hospitality Ministry. She often visited the sick in the hospital and in the nursing homes. Her life was a blessing. Her positive attitude and influence will be missed by her family, friends and anyone that knew her. She graduated from Princess Anne County Training School after which she attended Norfolk State College. Doris was united in marriage to the late James V. Baxter. They were happily married for 50 years until his death. Since he was in the military, she and her family lived in many different states and overseas in Germany. She was a member of the Aster Club. She was a supervisor at the Navy Exchange Retail Store at Oceana where she retired after 25 years. Doris was predeceased by her mother and father; Eugene & Marinda White, her husband; James V. Baxter, daughter; Sandra Jean Baxter Brooks, 2 sons; James Keith Baxter & Carlton Wayne Baxter & one sister; Edith Louise Johnson. She leaves to mourn her two granddaughters; Danielle M. Brooks(Virginia Beach) and Tamika C. Baxter(Sylacuga, Alabama), one Grandson; Corey D. Diggs(Virginia Beach), four Great Grandsons; Tydavion Foster, Deavion Foster, Corey J. Diggs & Caleb W. Diggs and one Great Granddaughter; Jhania Foster, One Uncle; Joseph V. Grimstead, Sr., One special cousin; Joseph V. Grimstead, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the sanctuary of First Lynnhaven Baptist Church, 2744 Robert Jackson Dr., Va. Beach, VA 23452. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Tuesday at Community Funeral Home Norfolk Chapel.
