Thelma Marcella Cox, 88 of Columbus, died Thursday April 6, 2017 at home. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Pinehurst Baptist Church at 4217 St. Mary's Road, Columbus, Georgia on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 2 P.M. Visitation will be at the chapel from 1 – 2 P.M.
Born February 3, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marcella MacMurrain. Mrs. Cox was a charter member of Pinehurst Baptist. She served through the years as a teacher in the children and youth departments. She was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. Ladies' Auxiliary #665, and a member of Miriam Rebekah Lodge #7. Her love for family, friends, and community was expressed through her original hand-made gifts that included Christmas ornaments and afghans.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Cassandra (Cassie) Cox, her husband Garrett E. Cox, and her brother, Thomas J. MacMurrain.
Survivors include her daughter Frances Graham and husband Mike, of Asheville, NC, her daughter Janice Jordan and husband Lanier of Newton, GA, and by three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
