Nell graduated Valedictorian of her class from Oakway High School in 1937. Grady and Nell would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on July 10th. Together they raised five children.
Nell was a long-time, dedicated member of Earle's Grove Baptist Church where she taught the youth and older adults. She directed the children's and youth choir and was an alto in the adult choir. She was also a member of the J.O.Y Club. Nell was a woman of strong faith and a dedicated servant to her Lord. She loved reading her Bible every day, and loved sharing Scripture with those around her. She instilled these values in her family. Granny Nell will always be remembered for her home cooking. She had dinner ready at 11am every day for anyone who wanted to stop in and eat. Her vegetable soup served in a plate, her cornbread cooked in an iron skillet, and her biscuits, that everyone tried to replicate, were among the many favorite dishes of family and friends.
Nell was preceded in death by her six brothers; Josh, Roy, John Sam, J.E. "Jake", Max, and Donnie Ray, her three sisters; Grace, Mildred "Mid", and Barbara Ann, and a son-in-law David Manley.
Grady and Nell's legacy of faith and family will be continued through the lives of their 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on July 9, 2017 at 3 pm at Earle's Grove Baptist Church, 398 Cedar Lane Rd. Westminster, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
