The remains of William Bateman were brought here from Bradford for burial, Thursday. Mr. Bateman came with his wife from Ireland in 1881, and resided in this place until 1894 when they went to Bradford. Mrs. Bateman died last January and the death of this loved companion was too great a shock for the venerable man. He failed considerably since, until death relieved him on Monday night. He leaves five sons, Richard, who resides in Ireland, James of Jamestown and Benj. H., William and Thomas of Bradford. The deceased was a life long member of the Methodist church and the funeral was held in the M.E. church, Thursday, with interment in Wildwood cemetery.
To the right is a newspaper clipping from the Cattaraugus Republican May 12, 1881 telling of their arrival in Salamanca.
