BURLINGTON, VT. - Albert "Al" Lloyd Williams, of Burlington, passed away on September 5th 2014.

Known to many as "Bub," Albert was born on May 10th 1923 and grew up in Charlotte, Vt., he was the middle child of Murchison Lewis and Flora M. (Chaffee) Williams.

His early years on the family farm gave him a love of animals, the ability to fix anything mechanical, and a talent for gardening, but did not leave him with a desire to carry on the farming tradition.

His father sold the farm upon deciding that, in Al's words, he "liked girls better than cows."

Al served in the US Army in World War II and earned a Purple Heart near the end of the war in Europe, spending some reportedly enjoyable time in Paris, an experience that likely did not begin to compensate for, as he described it, "seeing things no one should ever have to see."

He and June D. Merrihew married in 1949 and moved to Burlington, Vt., where they lived until June's death on June 6th 1992.

He rarely traveled, preferring to undertake building or remodeling projects at his home and his camp, or boating on Lake Champlain, although he did enjoy family weekends at Vermont State Parks and a handful of trips to Maine.

Al occasionally treated his family to apple pie, pancakes for breakfast or dinner, or oyster stew.

While his family, and not his work life, was his focus, he was a longtime employee at the Brewer Brothers Car Dealership and at IBM.

In addition to his wife; June Williams, he was predeceased by his parents; his father Murchison Williams in 1973 and his mother Flora Williams in 1945, and one sister; Thelma May (Williams) Cymbor on February 9th 1988.
