U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator. He attended the University of Omaha, graduated from Creighton University College of Law, in 1929, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Omaha, Nebraska. He was chairman of Board of Douglas County Commissioners, (1944-52), member of Advisory Committee to Nebraska Board of Control, (1947-52) and president Nebraska Association of County Officials, (1950-51). He also was a member of Advisory Committee to Nebraska Board of Control, (1947-52) and president of the Nebraska Association of County Officials, (1950-51). In 1953, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-third Congress, serving until his resignation in 1954. He was then elected to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Hugh Butler, serving (1954-76). After leaving the Senate, he lived in retirement until his death at age 94. The Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center and the Roman L. Hruska Federal Courthouse in Omaha, are named in his honor.
