Obituary for David Albert Samuelson

David Albert Samuelson, age 76, of Knoxville, Iowa, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017. He was surrounded by loved ones at the Knoxville Hospital through Hospice after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Visitation for David will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Iowa.

David’s wishes were to be cremated; a Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday August 21, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Nat Bothwell officiating.

David was born on July 26, 1941, in Ames, Iowa. Has was the son of William J. and Laura R. (Sundell) Samuelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanhope, Iowa. He grew up on a farm southeast of Stanhope. David graduated from Stanhope High School in 1959, and went on to graduate from Drake University with a degree in pharmacy in 1963. David worked for 46 years as a Pharmacist in Jefferson, Bloomfield, and Knoxville, Iowa.

David was united in marriage to DeLoris Weitzell in 1986. David and DeLoris moved to Knoxville and David took a position managing Medicap Pharmacy. David managed Medicap in Knoxville for 30 years before retiring in 2008.

David was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved coffee time with his friends, Sprint Car Racing, especially during the Knoxville Nationals and the Chili Bowl. He was a friend to all and his smile was contagious. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Those left to treasure David’s memory are his wife, DeLoris; his sons, Steve (Diana) Samuelson of West Des Moines/Mesa, AZ and Brian (Gloria) Samuelson of Ankeny, Iowa; his stepchildren, Deisha (Steve) Reynolds of Pella, Iowa and Dana (Kate) Goshon of Marion, Iowa; his grandchildren, Zach and Dylan Davison, Brenna, Megan, Tyler and Delanie Reynolds, and Morgan Goshon; his brother Dennis (Pat) Samuelson of Jewell, Iowa; and many other special family members.

The family would like to thank HCI Care Services and Knoxville Hospital for the wonderful care David received. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to HCI Care Services, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Sprint Care Hall of Fame.
