Lora Ethel Day was born on 20 Dec 1898 in Boon Township in Warrick County, Indiana. Her parents were Bartley Ellis Day and Elizabeth Crossley Brumagin. She had 8 full siblings (David Isaac, Lucinda Jane, Leona Bernice, Howard Bartley, Jane, Gladys Mabel, Bessie Marie and Harriet M). Jane passed away as an infant. In addition, she had 3 half-siblings (John Edwin, Louis Rufus and Ellis V) from her father’s previous marriage to her Aunt Maggie.

Early in life, she lived with her parents and siblings in Warrick County. According to the 1900 census taken on 4-5 Jun 1900, the family was living in Boon Township in Warrick County, Indiana. At the time, Lora was one year old and living with her parents Bartley (43) and Lizzie (37) and her 4 siblings; David (12), Lucy (10), Leona (8), and B.H.*Howard (6) and her 2 half-siblings from her father’s previous marriage to her Aunt Maggie; J.E. *John (19), and Louis (17). In addition, her grandmother Lucinda Brumagin now 72 lived with them. According to the 1910 census taken on 27 Apr 1910, the family was now living in Luce Township, Spencer County, Indiana where they owned a house free and clear. Lora was 11 years old and living with her parents Bartley (52) and Lizzie (47) and his 6 siblings; David (22), Leona (18), Howard B (16), Gladys (9), Bessie (6) and Hattie M (3). After her marriage to Worden in 1919, it appears they at some point moved to Arkansas. According to the 1920 Census taken on 10 Jan 1920, they lived in DeValls Bluff in Watensaw Township in Prairie County, Arkansas where they owned a house on Brackley Street. At the time, Lora was 21 years old and lived with her spouse, Graham Lashbrook (28). In addition, Graham’s Mother Catherine (58) lived with them. However, by 1930, it appears they moved back to Indiana. According to the 1930 Census taken on 16 Apr 1930, they were living in Ohio Township, Spencer County, Indiana where they owned a house on Lincoln Avenue. At the time, Lora was 31 years old and lived with her spouse Graham Lashbrook (38) and their 3 children; Graham Jr (7), James H (5), and Loren D (3). In addition, Graham’s Brother Howard (47) and his mother Katherine (69) lived with them. Shortly after the death of her husband in 1935, they moved upstate to Indianapolis. According to the 1940 Census taken on 19 Apr 1940, they were living in Center Township in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana where they owned a house at 1802 New Jersey Street. Lora was 41 years old and lived with her 5 children; Graham (17), James (15), Loren (13), Paul (11) and Richard (8). In addition, her niece Eunice Day (33) lived with them. According to family records, Lora moved to Fresno, California in 1949 to work for a Federal Judge. At some point, she moved back to Arkansas where she lived in Little Rock. It appears she lived in this area until her death in 1991.

According to the 1920 census, Lora was listed as a Stenographer for the Government. She was employed during WWI in the War Department in Washington D.C. as a Stenographer. After the war, she worked in the National Emergency Council for the State Director. She attended the Indiana Law School in Indianapolis where she graduated with a Law Degree on 8 Jun 1938. According to the 1940 census, she was listed as a Clerk and stenography for the US government. Lora's law specialty was air law and joined the staff of Notre Dame University Law School, the first woman to be so employed. In 1949 she moved to Fresno, California as clerk to the federal judge there. (Info from Day Genealogy Notebook)

Lora married Worden Graham Lashbrook on 29 Aug 1919 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Worden passed away in 1935. According to family records, Lora married Rolla Wells Bishop on 15 Jul 1984 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Lora and Worden had 5 children (Worden Graham Jr, James Howard, Loren Day, Paul David, and Richard Lee). She did not have any children with Rolla. Lora passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday, 10 Mar 1991 in Little Rock, Arkansas in Pulaski County. Services were held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, 16 Mar 1991 at the Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Indiana. She was laid to rest on 16 Mar 1991 in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport, Indiana in Spencer County.
