Martin T. Goins, Jr. age 67 of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in his home after a lengthy illness.

Family and friends may visit from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2017, at Rupp Funeral Home. He will lie in state at 10 a.m. Monday at Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Rev. B.J. McDaniel, Pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, with military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1138, Monroe.

Born October 7, 1949, in Monroe, he is the son of Martin T. and Helen (Bowman) Goins. Martin graduated from Monroe High School with the class of 1967. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from April of 1968 to December of 1969. He worked for Consumers Energy as a Coal Supply Operator for 31 years, retiring in 2007. Martin was a proud member of V.F.W. Post 1138 of Monroe and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 258. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and, most of all, spending time with friends and family.

To cherish his memory, Martin leaves two children, Andrew Goins of Taylor, Michigan and Tracie (John) Heidenreich of Romulus, Michigan; parents, Martin Sr. and Helen Goins of Monroe; one brother, Ronald (Dawn) Goins of Monroe; two sister, Brenda (Howie) Sieb of Monroe and Linda Collins of Monroe; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles and one sister, Mary Anteau.
