Rev. Samuel Butler was preceded in death by his father Oran Douglass Butler, Sr., mother Juanita Butler, two brothers Cleophas Butler, Oran Butler, Jr., and a sister Lucille Butler Estes.

Rev. Samuel Butler accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church located in Third Ward Houston - 2222 Gray Ave. The residing Pastor was Rev. N.C. Crain.

Samuel became an Ordained Minister after returning from serving in the United States Air Force, where he had become an airplane mechanic.

Samuel lead a fruitful and knowledgeable life.

Everyone that knew him loved his delightful spirit, but God loved him most.

His laughter rang through our ears as one of a kind.

He leaves behind his son Samuel D. James, a sister Ora Lee Butler Estes, thirteen nieces and nephews - Clarence Jr. Estes, Juanita Butler, Lucille Lawson, Dester Estes, Norris Butler, Harold Ebnezer, Charles Estes, Betty Davis, Sherri Jackson, Carla Sanders, Jessica Louis, Alfred Estes, Jainell Velazquez and a host of great nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
