Richard Lee “Andy” Anderson was born on August 8, 1937 in Clarinda, Iowa. He was the son of Alvin and Lillie (Gustafson) Anderson. He lived his youth on a farm and attended school in Shenandoah, Iowa where he graduated from high school. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was united in marriage to Gene Ann Anderson of Clarinda, Iowa on February 10, 1956 in Clarinda. To this marriage, they had six children: Patrick Lee, Tod Eugene, Timothy Michael, Rhonda Kay, Sonja Sue, and Jon Phillip. With kids in tow, they lived in many towns, including Shenandoah, Iowa, Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Algona, Iowa, before settling with the family in Sibley, Iowa in 1968. Gene Ann passed away on October 3, 2015.
Richard worked in grocery stores most of his life. He started as a bagboy and worked himself up to manager. He worked in many stores, hoping to own his own. He later worked in sales at Sather Cookie Company, working all over the United States.
Richard enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, meeting people, and singing Johnny Cash songs off key. His family was important to him and his dog, Buttons.
Richard went to be with his Lord and his son, Tod, on Monday, October 9, 2017.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Patrick and wife Vina Anderson of Sammamish, WA, Tim Anderson of Sibley, IA, Rhonda Fisher and special friend Mike Kolbeck of Ashton, IA, Sonja Adams and special friend Barry Willemssen of George, IA, Jon Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer (Fisher) Otto, Joe Fisher and special friend Yvonne Beard, David Willemssen and special friend Laura Love, Katie Willemssen and special friend Andy Taverna, Colin Anderson, Christopher Anderson; 2 great grandchildren: Madelyn and Addison Otto; one sister, Donna Rulon of Shenandoah, IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gene Ann Anderson; son, Tod Anderson; his parents; 4 brothers, Howard Anderson, Irvin Anderson, Marvin Anderson, and Clark Anderson; one sister, Beth Ann Anderson.
