Bill was the son of Melvin Alexander Godwin and Annie Priscilla Gertrude Davis. After his father Mell, passed away in 1946 his mom remarried to Clarence W Bishop who later adopted him and his sister Barbara Ann. Bill married June Ellen Tidwell on 17 November of 1961 in Birmingham, AL and they had two daughters, Ginger Lynn Godwin(Keith Cornelius)and Pennie Ann Godwin(Jimmy Pyle). Bill lived his entire life in the Birmingham/Trussville area, with the exception of a few years he lived in San Diego, CA while stationed there in the US Navy.
