PASCUAL ACUNA

Pascual Acuna, 87, died Monday, June 21, 2004, in a local hospital.

A rosary will be said Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel. A mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Trent Cemetery.

Acuna was born in Villa del Paraiso, Mexico on May 17, 1917. He lived in Trent and retired from T&P Railroad, after working for 27 years. Prior to the railroad career, he was in highway construction employment. Acuna was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Adela Acuna of Trent; four daughters, Felipa "Phyllis" Martinez of Abilene, Julia Leal of San Antonio, Petra "Patsy" Byrd and husband, Denver, of Rochester and Lupe Adames and husband, Aurelio, of Sweetwater; four sons, Manuel Acuna and wife, Mary, of Abilene, Jesse Acuna of St. Louis, Mo., Si Acuna and wife, Maria, of Sweetwater and David Acuna and wife, Susan, of Abilene; one sister, Ruby Acuna of Trent; two brothers, Louis Acuna of Trent and Jesse Acuna and wife, Mary, of Brownwood; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
