Spc. Brandon Parr of West Valley City, UT., was born in California's Central Valley but grew up in San Luis Obispo, about midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on the state's Pacific Coast Highway. He met his wife at a Salt Lake City dance club not long after moving to Utah with his mother and stepfather. The couple married in 2001 after a six-month courtship. He was on his second deployment to Baghdad after joining the Army in August 2003. His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Action Badge. He was 25.
