James Edward “Mo” Morrissey, 66, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at 8 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2017) at his home.

He was born Oct. 24, 1950, in Kewanee, the son of James Bernard and Floradean Ruth Matthews Morrissey. Jim grew up on a farm in rural Wyoming making wonderful and often mischievous memories with his sisters, cousins and friends. He married the love of his life, Beverly Jean Barnes, on Nov. 8, 1980, at Funks Grove Church. She survives, forever grateful for their final moments together.

Jim made tremendous contributions to help build and mature the systems department as a dedicated 48-year employee of State Farm, Bloomington. Outside of work, his passion for good music, entertaining friends and having a great time inspired him to start his own local karaoke experience, “Mo & Friends.” He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the El Paso Golf Club, even hosting a number of “Mo Open” tournaments over the years as a way to gather his friends. Jim was a founding father of the Illinois State University chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. Most importantly, he recently reconnected with his faith and became a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna, Bloomington.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by a daughter, Ashleigh (Derek) Brucker, Cropsey; two stepdaughters, Stacy (Judd) Edgington, Grove City, Ohio, and Jessica Cope, Greeneville, Tenn.; two stepgrandchildren, Phoenix and Kamryn Cope; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two loving sisters, Linda Perino, Mesa, Ariz., and Kathy (Michael) Rose, Conroe, Texas; as well as several nephews, nieces, cousins, an aunt and uncle, and numerous members of his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a close cousin, Bob Morrissey, whom he considered a brother.

Known for his positivity, playful humor and kind, generous heart, Jim celebrated life and cared genuinely about everyone he met. He was truly one of a kind, and will be so deeply missed by all who loved him. His family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to all friends, family, co-workers, medical and hospice professionals who have cared for Jim throughout his journey.

Honoring Jim’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no service will be held. Jim was passionate about his family and friends enjoying themselves, so please raise a glass in his honor — he would likely suggest a shot of Crown during karaoke night.

Condolences may be left with the family at eastlawn-bloomington.com.
